Poles and cavaletti with Danish team coach Lars Terkildsen
Lars Terkildsen is a certified riding master, and today he is the daily leader of Holte Riding Club, Denmark. He is known for his experience with international show jumping, and furthermore he was very successful as the Danish National Pony Team Trainer in show jumping.
Poles and cavaletti are some of Lars’s favorite tools in the training of both riders in show jumping as well as dressage riders. Because in this kind of training, it’s very clear to the riders whether what they’re doing is successful.
Today, Lars Terkildsen is passionate about helping ponies, horses and riders improve. And the end goal doesn’t have to be a big competition, but rather that the equipage can embrace their full potential, which is only possible if they control the basics.
In this series, Lars shows us a number of his popular pole and cavaletti courses, and everyone can join in no matter your type of horse or your discipline. The point of this is to give your basic training a boost in a different way, and among other things we’ll look at:
- the half-halt
- correcting the horse’s shoulders
- shortening and lengthening of strides
- riding balanced circles and curves
- show jumping in general
- the rider’s seat
- new ways to train dressage basics
